"After qualifying as a Machine Tool Fitter - I spent a number of years working in a Yamaha dealership which enabled me to go Racing with Yamaha 125s & 250s.
During the early 80s I worked for the UK Yamaha importer Mitsui, as a Service Engineer, travelling throughout the UK Consulting and Troubleshooting for dealers.

Later in the 80's I became freelance - concentrating on preparation and repairs, & around the same time I began Sidecar Racing using a Yamaha (of course) TZ350 engine.

We enjoyed a measure of success, including winning the F2 class when it was first included at the Southern 100 in the Isle of Man, along with a couple of Bronze replica's at the TT, whilst at home we scored some top placings at Club level - all this was achieved on machinery prepared and tuned entirely by myself in my own workshops.

Our racing continued up to 1996 by which time the TZ engine was no longer competitive against the 600cc 4 cyl engines that were introduced a few years previously, so the decision was made to take time out to allow me to concentrate on my business interests.

During the latter part of 2008 my "passion" for 2 strokes returned so the outfit which was still sitting in my workshop over the past 12 years was re-prepared - before making a return to the tracks. We hope to continue racing by competing at selected home and continental Classic events.

Sourcing spares has now become an important part of daily life. While there are still many parts available for these older engines, there are still many items that are either no longer made by Yamaha or unreasonably expensive, as a result I have started to look for solutions for my own needs in collaboration with engineers, manufacturers, and suppliers and I am happy to pass on these benefits to other TZ owners."
